Thankful Thursday – Volunteer Airdrie’s Board

Last night’s Annual General Meeting for Volunteer Airdrie was the most enjoyable one for me since I joined in 2013.

Granted, we have not solved all the volunteerism problems in Airdrie yet. There is so much left to do, with scarce amounts of time, money and other resources.

Our Board, however, is one of the most passionate and selfless teams I have worked with since moving to Airdrie in 2006.

We have endured upheaval and turnover in the Board and staffing during 2014 and 2015.

We have adapted creatively to the loss of 90% of our funding from the FCSS program.

We have reorganized and re-strategized with the support of Volunteer Alberta and Alberta Culture’s Community Development team.

We have established our reputation as the “go to” organization for non-profits desperately needing help to recruit volunteers for their events.

Who in their right minds would endure this kind of stressful change in their spare time?

I found the answer at this week’s RVS Building Futures Exhibition of Learning.  On one of the walls of the houses that 32 students built during their Grade 10 school year, there was a collection of notes posted by each student on what they had learned.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each one of Volunteer Airdrie’s Board of Directors for being passionate about promoting volunteerism in Airdrie!

I can’t wait to see what this team will do in the next 12 months!!
